Who is Diane Valory
Hi, I'm Diane Valory.
I was born in Long Beach California. I am the first born of four girls. My parents - Joseph and Mary, both worked in the television industry in Hollywood.
We moved to the San Francisco bay area during the 1960s. I started writing in the seventh grade, thanks to my English teacher, Miss Herzog.
I went to Campolindo High School with Herbie "Bud" Herbert, the manager of Journey for many years. Herbie went to Woodstock with Santana and appears onstage in the movie Woodstock. Herbie was always heavily into music. He introduced me to Ross at a football game. Steve Miller was playing on the field after the game and Herbie asked me to invite Steve's band up to Ross's parents house to jam.
Soon Ross and I moved to Stinson Beach where we joined the band and we were married. After the Miller and Santana breakups, Neil Schon and Gregg Rolie came to our house in Forest Knolls. Along with George Tickner, the music started flowing.
I was very lucky that they asked me to write lyrics. We recorded "Mystery Mountain" at Graham Nash's studio in San Francisco. Soon after, "Look into the Future" became the title track for the second record. While the fourth record was a work in progress, I was studying astrology and I came across a 16th century woodcut called "The Vision of Ezekiel". "Wheel in the Sky" came to me like a gift from the heavens. It became the title track for Infinity. Along side our genius producer from England, Roy Thomas Baker, the song was born, along with a song called "Can Do".
The magic never ends. I spent the following years running the Journey fan club with my mom reading the interesting letters and responding to them.
I still continue to write poetry. The best is yet to come.
